10 days in Croatia

Hi Aled,
you can use either buses in combination with ferries, or you can rent a car /might be expensive but check on line there are few on Zagreb airport / called Pleso/.

If you decide to take the bus, there is a shuttle from the airport going directly to the Main bus station in Zagreb from where all the buses leave, many going South to the Coast.

Zagreb can be a starting point for one day stay. /1/

On the way to the coast i recommend for you to stop at National park Plitvice lake /2/, it is an amazing gem of nature with number of interconnected lakes and waterfalls, in the vicinity there are some hotels, private houses with accommodation, campsites, etc..in case you want to stay overnight.

Heading further down to the coast, you can visit town of Zadar, Sibenik / i recommend as I am originally from there /3/ Trogir /little medieval gem/ and of course Split. /4/Take a ferry from Split. Depending on your time, you can first stop for a day in Bol at the island of Brac which is also very charming place with most beautiful beach /Zlatni rat/. /5/
From Brac take a ferry to the island of Hvar or Korcula where you can have some great time on the beach. Hvar is also very nice for its architecture, very charming place. /6-7/

From Korcula you can take some ferry or other type of boat directly to Dubrovnik or if you want to explore some more, take the ferry to the peninsula of Peljesac and then move towards Dubrovnik on the bus or rent a car.

Around Dubrovnik there are many nice villages for swimming/enjoying the beach time..but Dubrovnik, of course is the TOP destination which although crowded, deserves your time. I love Dubrovnik, it is one of the most beautiful places ever.

Go for a daily trip to the island nearby called Lokrum /5 minute ride on the boat/ and swim there. If you have one more day to spend, take a local ferry to Elafiti islands, and stop on the second one called Lopud /i liked that one the most, great beach, clean water, quiet, nice/. /8-10/

I think, 10 days is good enough time for Croatia. Enjoy!

Many thanks for this bobego, some excellent suggestions. I will be looking onto these over the next few days.

Aled

Hi,
We travelled around Croatia last year and I would suggest looking around the istria n peninsula....north of the country. Porec, rovinj, pula....fantastic coastline, great food and friendly people.....enjoy...

Hey,

Croatia is definitely in the top 3 of the most beautiful locations in Europe - it has outstanding nature the people are truly fantastic. You should do a google search for "Things to do in Croatia" and there's a site that will give you at least 5000 great suggestions for things like walks, sightseeing, events, parties...most of the people I met spoke decent English and all of them were very helpful, I am sure you will enjoy your trip.
