Hey everyone,
Don't know about the nightlife (really not my scene when I go to SE Asia) but Railay (easily reachable from Krabi airport) is nice and chilled, as are Ko Yao Yai and Ko Yao Noi.
Railey, is nice but you are a bit stuck there as it is a small peninsula with no road access. Might do better to stay in Ao Nang and do a day trip to Railey. You can also do loads of other great trips from Ao Nang. Krabi is a bit dead and more of a city for locals than a tourist destination. There is no beach at Krabi.
From the airport you can either get a taxi to Ao Nang, or if you are on a budget and got some time, walk out of the airport and just to your right towards town is a Songtau pick up point. You can take this to Krabi then transfer to Ao Nang, or he might be going all the way to Ao Nang.
I did the Krabi Thai Cookery School class with Ya. It was really informative and I can't believe she taught me how to make such amazing great tasting food!
Ah VIP guest house in Ao Nang was fantasic. Run by an English guy and his wife, who give you great discounts on all the local attractions.

Krabi is a great place with many different waterfalls. There you can easily rent a car and drive around the town which IMO is recommended because it is more adventurous that way. Do not that the street lightings are not good so its better to go back to your hotel before it is too late and dark.
Krabi has some of the best waterfalls. It gives a feeling of very close to nature where you can walk directly into the waterfall.
Thanks Dodger and Street jury, think your right dodger and im heading for aonang. Ive booked my first 2 nights at a place just 2 mins to beach and im going to play it by ear the rest of the week. I think your right on the day trips too. Really looking forward to the week off.
Do not book any trips at the Trip Store across the road from Pak Up. I did and on the bus en route to destination - whoever it is went underneath and went through all our bags. They had told us "no bags on the bus". I had about 7000 TB stolen (pity normally I carry my cash on me) and two Irish guys who carried on with me post-bus had their passports pinched. The tour company was "Krabi Fortune". They even went to the trouble of pouring some kind of glue on the zippers so it takes you a while before you realise and can get into your bag.
doniya,
Thank you for telling us about the theft from your bus. I have been telling visitors to Thailand for years to use the gov't bus system. Make the effort to get over to the bus station and ride the buses the Thai people use. Very few theft problems on the gov't bus system. Any Google search will come up with dozens of problems on the private buses the travel shops tout. Please learn from 'doniya's misfortune. Stay off the private buses while in Thailand.

Mike, considering how many people visit Thailand every year, the number of thefts is still very small. Just offering a blanket statement to "stay off private buses" is way over the top. There are plenty of operators that run private buses and are safe, they are also much more efficient than the government buses. If you only travel by government bus in Thailand you are going to limit yourself considerably and cause yourself a lot more aggravation than taking one of many perfectly safe private buses.
There are a few safe guards to traveling in any country. If the price sounds too cheap, there is usually a reason, and don't leave valuables in bags that are out of your sight.
Ive just spent a month in Thailand, and this time and every other time Ive been to Thailand I traveled almost exclusively by private bus and Ive never had a problem.
I also think another key point here is to remind people to use common sense, I have also used private buses (aswell as government buses) and never had any problems on either, however, i never leave anything out of sight which i cant do without, i ALWAYS carry passport, wallet, money, camera and Mp3 on my person, if im ever unfortunate enough to be the victim of theft at least it will be something which is replaceable.
I do agree with Mike however that its very important to tell these stories and keep reminding ourselves to stay vigilant.
Happy travels,
Andy.
Dodger, you and I are never going to agree on anything. You keep riding the private buses and I will continue to recommend the BKS system. The BKS system serves the entire country, so you can get to where you choose to go on their system. TP members can do a bit of reading and decide what is their best option for transport.
When many of the other bother to put up I think we can there is a
