Works for me, both setting a date, removing a date, or getting a sensible error message when entering an invalid date.
I suspect a browser-specific JavaScript error. Which internet explorer version are you using when you see this error?
It worked for me fine too just now, using Firefox.
I did not even change date and/or year.
It's probably IE8 or so here at work. Will try it at home tonight.

Hmm, can't reproduce here either. Let me know if there was anything specific that was done that caused it.
