Hello, I've been working in Sydney for a few months to save money to travel Australia and New Zealand. I have around $3000 saved. I have about a month and ten days in Australia and the same in New Zealand. I plan to couch surf for a lot of the time so accommodation isn't an issue unless anyone has any other ideas. Where should I go? What should I see? What should I do? Any tips for saving money on travel or experiences? Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks, Sam
Hello Sam
It is difficult to advise on Australia, as obviously it is a much bigger country and I’m not sure how much you want to cover? I guess you could either go up from Sydney to Brisbane/Cairns and then fly to NZ or down to Melbourne/Adelaide. I would suggest the later as you can then take in the Great Ocean Road. There are some lovely little spots to stop on the way.
In New Zealand I would say to spend the majority of your time on the South Island, although I went to Auckland, Taupo and Wellington on the North Island and they are all worth a visit. Everybody loves Queenstown on the South Island and Wanaka is great too, the Banks Peninsula is really nice and I never made it down to the south of the South Island, and Stewart Island, but I wish I had. Are you going to do your WHV in NZ too?
You can visit Bay of Islands and Bay of Plenty in New Zealand North Island . Nelson and Christchurch in South Island.
