pjjj has indicated that this thread is about Amsterdam
To start off with the basics, what kind of visa are you thinking of travelling on? Just want to make sure you actually will have one that allows you to work?
Well, You can always check Airbnb Amsterdam (just type it in Google). There you can find vacation rentals and rooms for rent. From there on, you can look for an actual place to live.
Finding a job should not be to hard, depending on what kind of job you're looking for. You can always walk into some restaurants, hostels, bars, etc. Or look at www.jobsinamsterdam.com, www.indeed.nl or www.jobisjob.nl.
Amsterdam is a citie where lots of things are possible and the easiest way to get tips and advice is go to a bar and talk to locals. Good luck though and enjoy!
applying for the visa online in australia sucks!! not enough info nor contact info but will have that worked out in the next week or so, will try applying for the longest working visa possible. cheers for the links will have a look. any advice on visas? for someone born in australia
great, everything is going to be perfect.
cheers
With moving to Amsterdam ; have you considered what time of the year you are going to plan on moving there and for how long? Accomadation can be cheaper when sharing with students or living on the outskirts of the city... also check out www.funda.nl
With work, it really depends on the type you are looking for and if you have languages, bar working / hospitality etc is easy enough to pick up and there are always signs in store windows looking for help but if you are looking for other work then it would be wise to already check out the recruitment websites so you have an idea of what you could earn and afford for rent/ bills...
There are many sites which specialise in english speaking positions and with a google search they come up (think expat / english language recruitment, unless of course you have more languages : which will help you a lot ).
If you are planning on moving here for a long time then you should consider checking out some of the expat sites like http://www.iamexpat.nl / http://www.expatica.com/nl/main.html etc etc ... though they are filled with adverts they can assist you with looking for jobs, health insurance, events to meet other people, financial advice,
If you need more information then feel free to ask, i am not Australian so can't help with the visa side but i am an expat living here for nearly 6 years so can help on that side..
Best of luck
dude cheers! moving start of 2015, only to ensure ive got more then enough funds to live comfortably. as long as i possibly can to be honest. do not know enough of any other languages for that to help, but i can learn, having been there 6 years is learning fluent dutch a major advantage?
This Dude'ette doesn't speak fluent Dutch and it is not essential in Amsterdam, but i live in another city. I do have a really good understanding of it and carry on a conversation in it. It is an advantage to speak the language though as it allows you more opportunities for work, to know what is happening around you etc but not knowing the language wouldn't be a major issue as everyone speaks english..
