Hi there! I am going to be travelling to several countries in Europe for the month of May and I am wanting to know about 2 cities in particular. I don't know ver much about Lisbon or Prague and am hoping someone will want to share some awesome things to do and see when I am in those two cities! Cheers!
Oh Lisbon is such a beautiful city. Sintra is a small place nearby and definitely a Highlight! Imagine castles and hills..
If you're looking for places to sleep you should choose hostels. Portugal is known for the good hostels that give value for your money and it shouldn't cost you to much. When in Lisbon also go the lively neighboorhoud Alfama.
When in Prague visit the Charles Bridge at dawn and have an overview of Prague from Letná park. On saturday go to the Karlin farmers market. In Prague the hostels are great too actually. -snip- Good luck and enjoy your travels!
In Lisbon, you can visit Belém, Sintra and many other beautiful places. In Belém, you can visit Mosteiro dos Jerónimos.

Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe in my opinion (but i am portuguese, so my opinion might be a bit biased!). It combines tradition and modernity in a very unique way, people are friendly towards tourists and prices quite reasonable. I would suggest you to stay at least 3 or 4 days if you want to visit some nearby places as other posters recommended (Sintra, Belém, and i would add Cascais also).
GoAroundEurope is right concerning the hostels too, Lisbon's hostels are rated as the best of Europe and there's plenty of choice for all budgets. The most typical neighbourhoods are Graça, Alfama & Mouraria. This is where you can find narrow streets with the Fado's typical scene (traditional portuguese music), the castle of Lisbon and some great miradouros (viewpoints) with fabulous panoramic views of the city, the river and the south bank of the river as well. Something that tourists like to do in Lisbon is to take the old yellow tramway (n°28) that crosses all these neighbourhoods. In downtown Lisbon (which is called Baixa/Chiado) shops, small cafés and restaurants are plentiful. If you want to experience the city's nightlife which is quite pleasant and cheap for european standards, Bairro Alto is the place to be. Street art is another highlight of Lisbon, you'll find interesting graffitis in almost all parts of the city. To see the modern side of the city you can head to Parque das Nações that is home to the Oceanarium (the biggest aquarium of Europe).
Lisbon is a very walkable city if you are in good shape (it's full of hills and the oldest neighbourhoods were built on those hills). You might have to take the metro if you want to go to the Parque das Nações. To reach Belém (20min), Cascais (40min) or Sintra(40min) you'll have to take the urban train. The line for Belém and Cascais is the same and starts in the station Cais do Sodré. To go to Sintra it's a different train that leaves from several stations, the most central being Rossio. In Belém, you'll find some beautiful gardens, the Monastery of Jeronimos, the Belém Tower, museums and art collections at the CCB (Belem's Cultural Centre, free entrance). One of the most famous places in Belém is the Pastéis de Belém house that sells a portuguese pastry's speciality, if you want to try something really tasty while you are there, this is the place go for a break! Cascais has a very beautiful beach where it is nice to relax in a sunny day. Sintra is a very magical and charming place, the Palácio da Pena is its main attraction but the old town of Sintra and the surrounding hills are also very pleasant to the eyes.
I was in Prague 3 years ago, and i really liked the atmosphere and the architecture of the city although it was hard to find non-crowded attractions, groups of tourists were everywhere! There is something magical about the river and the bridges, walking along the river remains my best souvenir of Prague (there was street music everywhere!). The old square is very typical and the churches particularly beautiful. Another must-do is to head to the other side of the river and hike up the hill to the vineyards where the views of the city are amazing. Hostels in Prague are among the cheapest of Europe, so it is also a great option for accommodation!

One of the most famous things to see in Prague is the Astronomical Clock installed in 1410. It's on the outside of the Town City Hall. Watch the animated figures when it chimes every hour. Wish I could have seen its 600th anniversary in 2010 when it was celebrated with a cool projection mapping event that you can find on Youtube

I personaly prefer Lisbon as as said above there many much more to see ther and it is more advance then the opponent city you want to go
I'd agree with some of the above posters that Lisbon is incredible. Here are my recommendations in the Lisbon region (I'm sure you can figure out Lisbon city's top sights in any guide).
1.) Sintra - Pena National Palace , Quinta da Regaleira, Cabo da Roca, Montserrat Palace
2.) Setúbal - This is probably the best beach area around Lisbon is you want to relax
3.) Cascais - Boca do Inferno
4.) Azahenas do Mar - amazing cliff-top village that's good for 1-2 days
