Hey I'm planning to go travelling and thought it would be a good idea to go Thailand first maybe a few countries near by and then on to Australia and maybe Fiji.
Maybe book a Round The World ticket with a stopover in Thailand on the way out and maybe Fiji on the way back.
You can travel overland from Thailand and pick up the plane again somewhere else.
High season is now (December) till the end of April. Other times can be wet in Asia, and cold in some parts of Australia.
Thailand is quite cheap, the main cost being getting there so spending extra weeks there in the sun is a good idea in winter back home. Australia is quite expensive, especially for accommodation. There is an Accommodation link at the top of the page to give you some idea of prices.
Travelfish is good for information on Asia. If you have a W H Smiths or such near you, look at some Lonely Planet guides. Bangkok.com is good for Bangkok.
Come back when you have something more specific.
In terms of general help you should check out the community and to get a feel for what's involved in beginning your trip. You should also check out the guide.
For help with your budget, I would suggest by A Couple Travelers. They often break down their daily budget in a destination which at least gives you an idea of what you can expect to pay for food, etc.
Don't forget Australia tends to be more in the region of A$75/day budget. This might help you work out how long you want to spend in SE Asia first.
Good luck with your planning!
