Do a few searches on the career sites mentioned in the , this will give you an idea of 'where most of the jobs are'. As for pay, it will vary but the career site searches will give you an idea of what is on offer. For your reference the is $16.37 an hour.
As for what kind of job is 'best', I would suggest searching for admin roles as the pay and hours are likely to be more favourable, and every other backpacker is fighting for the hospitality jobs.

Also check through the listings in you can narrow your search to areas in Aus (Sydney, Melbourne etc) and trades. That will give you an idea of what is out there right now. Listings in Gumtree get huge responses, so when you are looking for work, you need to check the listings continually and be fast and persistant with your responses.
