Travelling to Thailand July 2014

Crystal93 has indicated that this thread is about Central Thailand

Hey Crystal! I'll be in Thailand around the same dates as you. I get to Bangkok on July 15th. I'm thinking of spending a couple days in Bangkok before heading up to Chiang Mai and then eventually down to Koh Samui or Koh Phangan. How long are you going to be in Thailand? I only have 10 days, so I may cut out Chiang Mai.

For where to go you should buy or even borrow a travel guide on Thailand. Most travel guides give you background history, things to see and do and sometimes how to get from place to place. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, beach area and back to Bangkok again does it for many visitors.

Where to stay often depends on how much you want to spend per night. This means you have to work out some sort of daily budget. On the right hand side - top corner under "Log Out" is a SEARCH option. If you enter "hotel Bangkok" or "hotel Chiang Mai" you will get many hotel suggestions. Play with the words to improve the results.

Be careful meeting strangers on forums. There are some shady people who may try to meet up with you along with some genuine good people. So be careful. You do meet other tourists on tours, on the train or plane from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and even in bars, hotels and restaurants. For Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai you can sign on to tours at local travel agencies in person. On these tours you will be with 8 to 10 tourists. Good way to meet people.

Using the same SEARCH choice you can enter "see and do or travel guide" Chiang Mai or Bangkok and you will get some info. (SEARCH works for many things. Even a Google check will answer some of your questions that you can do further research on.)

Get the basics down for currency, taxi, scams to avoid and transportation from airport,,, etc.

Good luck.

Hi Crystal!

You won't be alone traveling, since you will meet loads of backpackers there
In Thailand, I really enjoyed some less-visited parts of the country. Chiang Mai is a gem, but if you go out of it you can get to Pai and Mae Hong Son, the first one being a small community in the mountains and the second a really cool city close to the Burmese border.

Lopburi, 4 hours North of Bangkok is really cool as well! Monkeys are everywhere and rule the streets and shop. Also, traveling around the country is really easy, and cheap if you do it by 3rd class train (who is not that bad, actually!)

Have a lot of fun!

Chiang Mai : Temple tour at Wat Suan Dok, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Chiang Man, Doi suthep
See market at Night Bazaar, Worarot Market. visit Zoo
Tips: rent a motorcycle
Pattaya, Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Pangan, Koh Samui.
Bangkok also has a lot of places to visit. you can stay at to khao san Road, Visit Grand palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun.
Go to Silom, etc.
Many place to visit, can't explain all.
