India in August: Suggestions, Travel Buddy

Hi everybody,

Dear Asena ,
I agree there have been incidences, but that doesnt happen everywhere, I suggest you travel in a group, use public transport as much as possible, travel only through day, avoid night travelling. Also do good research about the place you are visiting, Have a great and safe stay in India. Good Luck . If you need any help get in touch.

Warm regards

Arvind

Dear Asena,
I have been to north west Rajasthan in February 2013 and southern India in February 2014. My husband and I loved it very much and found it a fascinating and interesting country. We are in our sixties and travel with a group. My advice to you would be to definitely travel in a group and be very careful but have a great time. At the end of our 2013 trip, we heard that a couple cycling around the north west had been mugged, robbed and raped so I repeat, travel in a group.
Have fun.
Wendy

Hi Asena,

This time last year I visited Northern India for a month and I had the same travel concerns as you. I don't often micro-plan my trips, but for this one, I did a lot of research in advance. I think it's definitely important to exercise caution travelling by yourself there. That said, I met angels all along the way in India And they were mostly Indians themselves who were curious, wanted to make friends, wanted to help. I met some true gentlemen there and I remind myself of that when I think about some of the terrible rape cases we hear about in the media.

I would highly recommend visiting Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj (also known as 'Little Tibet" and the home of the Dalai Lama in India). I completed a 10 day silent meditation retreat there, and I would be happy to give you more details about that in a private message if you would like to know more. It was incredible! You could also easily fit in Amritsar on the way there. I was in Delhi also, and Delhi has its own charms (!), but I was glad to escape to the tranquility of the Himalaya.

India has gotten under my skin and I dream about going back soon I would love to visit Pakistan also, and I'd be really interested to hear your experiences there.

Safe travels

Dear Asena,

I hope you are in good health!

How is your internship going on in Lahore. Lahore is beautiful too I wonder if you have visited Badshahi Mosque, Tomb of Jahangir, Fakir Khana Art Gallery? These are few of the must visit places in Lahore.

For your India Traveler, it would had been great if you may have reached India on 15th August which we celebrate as Independence Day, just a day after Pakistan celebrate their Independence day. India is Incredible, every 500 kilometers you travel, get ready to see different culture, tradition and vegetation. Though you have not mentioned about the number of days you will be in India but yes to start with you will need at least 15 to 20 days for complete North India Tour.

Before I start recommending places which I have personally been to, I would like to state that India is huge and there are different kind of people everywhere. Its not like you face troubles everywhere and if you stay conscious and alert then you will hardly acquaint yourself with any trouble maker. Get a tailor made trip from recognized travel agency and you will honestly have a time of your life in India.

August will be a time of monsoon so there are chance of you to experience Indian rains as well & you will love to witness it.

To start with, if you are arriving in Delhi from Lahore then please make sure that you have at least 3 days for Delhi Trip. It is a majestic city with lot of history behind it. Redfort, Qutub Minar, Akshardham Temple, Lotus Temple, India Gate, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Hauzkhas Village, Isckon Temple are few among the must go places around Delhi. After Delhi I recommend that you head towards Agra where you will see one of the 7 wonders of the world - Tajmahal. Start with early morning trip to Taj Mahal and later the same day pay a visit to Agra Fort. One day would be enough for Agra and after that head towards Jaipur (the Pink City) capital of Rajasthan on your way to Jaipur you will get Fatehpur Sikri & Akbar's Tomb.

I hope you have heard about Akbar he was the Mughal Ruler and Emperor of India during Mughal Regime. Then comes Jaipur, take your time at Jaipur as there are so many places to visit & after that you can head towards Jaisalmer. It is majestic and you will feel royal out there.

Himachal Pradesh & Jammu Kashmir are 2 states where you should be while you travel in North India. Your Trip to North India is Incomplete without it. Places like Shimla, manali. Mcloedgunj, Dharamshala, Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh will make you awestruck. What to say about Kashmir, its a heaven on earth. Srinagar is so mystical.

You should wander Manali, Dharamshala for your Yoga Trip but my personnel recommendation would be a practicing yoga in Ladakh region of Jammu & Kashmir. I had been there recently and found one amazing place for Yoga. It is in Nimmu which is around 35 km away from District headquarters of Ladakh Region. Google Ladakh and get ready to be mesmerized by the beauty of the Cold Mountain Desert. Nimmu House was an good experiencwe and the trainers are phenomenon. I cannot post any numbers & details over the thread so in case you need their contact details then i can forward you that through a Private message.

Have a warm stay in Lahore and come soon to India.

Regards,

Rahul Shanti

India is a safe country its just that you have to be careful and alert. As you never who-when-why tries to harm you.India has many sites of attractions and as you said you want to experience meditation and Yoga sessions. You can visit Rishikesh in the north or Kerala in the South. They have the famous meditation centers.Apart from this, you can visit the nearby land to explore more of India.
