West Coast

Sylvester1 has indicated that this thread is about North America

Stay in Yosemite for another night or two. Then drive straight back to San Francisco, and follow the coastline south (Highway 1, the Pacific Coast Highway) over the remainder of your days. Santa Cruz, Monterey and especially the area around Big Sur are particularly worthy of stopping over at.

Shame you already booked accommodation in LA; I found it to be by far the least interesting place in California. (Check to see if you can still cancel that booking?)

After Yosemite, the fastest way ;is the 395 Highway to LA. You will pass a Mountain Resort call Mammoth Lakes, known for its outdoor sports, landmarks, and ski/snowboarding for the LA crowd(when in season) After that, nothing but little towns, until you hit the Famous LA traffic! Not sure what you are into, but LA has some interesting points and landmark. 5 days may be over kill, but then again 4 days in Vegas is also.
I agree with Sander, highway 1 would be cool to sight see, but it will give you another reason to come visit; the best state in the USA!

Safe travels.

M.

Sander and Marc covers one or two points already, so I won't repeat them.

Once you get to Vegas, I'd say at least get out and see The Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. If you want to hike the GC it will be more than a day trip, but otherwise you can easily organize a return bus to see both for a few hours. I found a long wknd in Vegas was too much for me, but that's just my opinion. I would agree Yosemite is worth as much time as you can afford to spend there - truly a beautiful and spiritual place if you can find your own quiet spot

Have a great trip!! Would LOVE to see Big Sur. Never managed to make it there

Thanks for your responses.

By the sounds of things 2 nights in Yosemite wont be enough so we are going to try and stay for another night or 2.

Have heard good things of the Big Sur so will definitely go to see that.

Definitely will be going to see the Grand Canyon, would much rather hike it than do a day tour, so again will look into this too.

Thanks for your help.
