Would it be possible for me to enter the country on a holiday visa
An would be what you'd want (rather than a holiday visa) - it's free, very easy to apply for, and allows you the same things as you'd expect with a holiday visa.
and than, while I am there apply for a working holiday visa? Would i have to leave and re-enter the country?
Assuming the same terms apply as to all other countries, you won't be able to apply for a W&HV while in Australia (this is also stated in the "Before you apply" section on the ), so yes, you'd have to leave the country, apply, and then return once it had been granted. Note that it's not at all certain you'll be able to apply online; Currently the USA is the only country in the Work & Holiday Visa scheme (462; not the more commonly discussed 417 Working Holiday Visa) from which you can apply online. And with only 200 entries per year, you might not even be guaranteed to get in, depending on how widely publicized the existence of this visa will be by the time they start.
