Thailand xmas/new year recommendations

Hey I will be spending xmas and new year in Thailand this year. Can anyone suggest the best area to stay at that time. Also should we book accommodation now?

Alicia,
If your were a guy, then I would just say: 'go to Pattaya!'. As you probably know, Pattaya has a dodgy reputation. Well deserved in past years, but much more family friendly now. Plenty to do, beach, sports, shopping, great restaurants and nightlife. Not as expensive as BKK or Phuket. Here is the 2012.

I think it will be a fun place to be over New Year, even for girls! Yes, I would book a room over the X-mas to New Year time frame. That is probably the busiest week of the year. Pattaya has thousands of rooms, but I expect all the lower price hotels will sell out.

Good luck with your planning.

Best area depends on what you want to do. (Also what your budget is like.) If you are young, maybe under 21 with a tight budget, Khao San Road is a popular area. Got a little more money and want to also be able to use city rail service (Skytrain, Rail Link and Subway) maybe Siam, Nana or Asoke area. Pratunam area is good for shopping and with less "in your face" nightlife. Riverside is nice, maybe a little more pricey too.

These two holidays have many hotel rooms booked far in advance. This is the busiest time of the year for hotels and usually with the most tourists. Some hotels impose a party surcharge for Christmas and New Years. Rooftop restaurants may be booked up if you wait to the last minute.

Fireworks Bangkok.

Different areas in Bangkok.

Most tourists have a nice time in Thailand over the Christmas and New Years holidays. But this time of the year is a little more expensive for hotels compared to other months. Don't wait to the last minute to book your hotels, also your flights to Thailand. (Plane rides may be higher priced too!) One bright spot is that Bangkok is usually cheaper than Phuket for hotels and local transportation.

Have fun.

Hey! I'm over there too for Xmas and new year! We have a couple of nights in Bangkok and then onto koh toa for Xmas and then koh panghan for New Year's Eve! Were then gonna go for a couple of days on koh Samui and then hopefully up to Chiang Mai! Feel free to message me any info u wanna share

Kelly x

That time of year is high season, so you should definitely book ahead. Samui is nice for xmas and new year, I would suggest you check out Chaweng Beach. I stayed there at akyra last year, had an amazing time! There's loads of things to do. It's a great location with plenty of water sports activities, places to eat/drink, and you can easily get a massage right on the beach. The beach was beautiful, I absolutely loved it! Especially the beachfront pool! Chaweng is perfect for active travellers.

hey, if you looking for great party, you should go to Koh Phangan where mostly every night great party is held especially Full Moon Party. Others include half moon party, pool party, jungle experience, pre and after party and etc. Haad Rin is the main point in Koh Phangan's night life and there you'll find great beach bars and clubs. For your information, full moon party is rated second best of beach party and nightlife last year just behind Miami. if you wanna go there, take plane to Koh Samui, then ferry straight to koh phangan
(250 bath= 8 us dolar). There you take tut tut( open air taxi for 100bath per person) to Haad Ring. As for accommodation, you should book early because it always full house especially during FMP. For food you shouldn't worry as they serve much western food there.

good luck with your holiday

PS: You can also do many things there such as sightseeing national park and island, scuba diving, kiteboarding( Jan - April), elephant trekking, kayaking, watching muay thai, archery, canopy tour, and etc. you should plan your trips carefully.
