Hi, I am from Bangkok and is planning to travel to the States in December. I'll be travelling on the 19th December till the 3rd January. I'll be visting Hawaii and California. What I planned is to stay in Hawaii (Honolulu, Oahu) for 4 to 5 days and leave to California on the 24th December. The rest of the days I want to spend in San Frans, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and Los Angeles (thats prolly the main cities in Cali). But I'm not really sure of how to travel from one place to another. Should it be by bus? or flight? However, my flight back to Bangkok is from LA on 3rd January at night so however the trip is planned my last spot has to be in LA.
Sounds like a good plan, but I would allow two days to go from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back, since it is about a 6 hour drive by bus each way and it is likely that you will pass through at least one small snowstorm on the way either there or back.. Be aware that the Grand Canyon is at a higher elevation than Las Vegas, so dress warmer for when you are there. Also, be aware that the desert (Las Vegas) in the winter is likely to be much cooler than LA or San Francisco.
Be aware that Las Vegas is likely to be empty on Christmas but packed on New Years Eve (Dec 31). Hotel prices will be therefore higher on New Years Eve (much higher) but less on the other days. If you plan to go to a New Years Eve Party, book way ahead (that is, book your place at the party or late show now.
