Japan, alone?

Hi

No, don't wait. If you can go and want to go, then just go. You won't regret it

So you do know some Japanese? Even if you don't, you'll be fine. Thankfully Japan's transport is rather straight forward and you will find people want to help you. Ticket machines at big stations often have options/voiceovers in English.

Looking for an address is another story lol but you'll get by using landmarks. If you ask for directions in your hostel they may draw you a map to guide you there.

I was 18 when I first went to Japan on my own (13 on a group trip) and have been a number of times since. I once went with someone as part of a cheap 2-for-1 flight deal and it was terrible. Worst time I've ever spent in Japan because I was navigating their moods and managing their culture shock for most of the trip.

Anyway, good luck whatever you decide.

Well I did take a few classes a while back, but now I only know Ichi, Ni, san; which won't get me far!

All good to know thanks. That's a good point, definitely sealed my decision to go it alone; especially as my friends aren't too adventurous when it comes to food, which just won't do!

Its either going to be Japan or Spain & Morocco I reckon next year.

Thanks

It's by no means comprehensive but this isn't a bad refresher –

More of my favourite places My experience of both was limited but if you need any advice, let me know.

Fabulous, thats most helpful, thanks. Slipped my mind that I'll be seeing symbols instead of letters!

Would you say Morocco and Japan are safe places to travel alone?

Yes to Japan, no to Morocco. And this is only based on the level of hassling received (please forgive me for presuming you were female, your profile doesn't say...?)

Oh ok. I'm not, though Im quite small, and probably look a fairly easy target

Hmm ok, up to you. I went with others including a particularly tall male so I think the attention could have been worse. I love solo travel but while in Marrakech particularly I was grateful to be travelling with others.

That's good to know; don't want to feel I can't wander and get myself lost in the hidden parts of a city; like I could in mainland Europe lets say.

Thanks for all your help
