Hi guys!
I'm 17 and will be finishing school probably next year.
For a long time now, I'm planning to travel to London, New York and Seoul. I've been in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece so far but only for few days. Since I have a lot of time after school I want to travel all around the world probably with some friends and for the first time without parents.
So I collected some questions and it would be nice if you guys would answer them.
1. Only you can decide if those are places you would enjoy visiting. I've never been to Seoul, but I really enjoyed my trips to New York and London. Great food, lots of history, public transportation. Without knowing what you want to do and see I can't know if you would like those cities.
2. I usually choose my flights based on what airlines are flying out of the city I'm leaving from as well as the price of the flight. I've only used the basic large American companies (American, United, etc) as well as some European ones. (Yes, including Ryanair) None of them stood out as being really great or really horrible. I would see what is available for your flight and then run a Google search and see what people are saying about that airlines.
3. Yea, I don't enjoy flying either. I suggest trying to book your seat ahead of time so you can get either a window or an aisle seat - and not get stuck in the middle of a long center row. Take some snacks and water on the plane with you and some head phones to listen to your music. And maybe a light jacket - I always find it rather cold on planes. Flying is just something I have to endure so I can travel.
4. You won't discover 'everything' about any of those cities. That would take a lifetime. Figure out what sights are interesting to you by doing some internet searches. Also keep in mind that at least London and New York are expensive cities to visit. That might determine how long you stay in each city.
Would you recommend travelling From cologne-london-new york - seoul - cologne in a row or more like
cologne - london - cologne wait some time and do the same thing with new york and seoul again?
Wow, those are some long flights you have planned! New York to Seoul is at least 14 hours. Seoul to Cologne is at least 12. If you fly from Cologne to New York, spend a week and then fly to Seoul that would be 2 really long flights in a short span of time. Are you planning on seeing any cities in between? As for coming back to Cologne between flying to London and New York, well, it depends on your finances and time you have to travel. If you're in cologne you should be able to catch a cheap flight to London for a few days to see how you like traveling without your parents. But every flight home (or to cologne) adds money and time to your trip.
Trear, I'll be honest with you... that sounds like a horrible RTW trip. Long flights to only 4 different cities, with 3 of them being English speaking cities in only 2 different countries, both of them developed.
How long are you planning to take to do this trip?

Hmm, so I have roughly 1 year time to travel. The problem is my friends only have 3 months on their own. I'd like to stay longer in each city. Like in New York I don't think I will have too much problems adjusting to the lifestyle + my friends will be with me too, but they only want to stay in NY for a week which is I think much too less.
Korea is a very interesting country, but there aren't much offers in Work and Travel and the language / lifestyle is completely different, would you suggest to me to not travel to NY and Seoul in a few weeks? I'd love to visit Korea but I'll probably be alone there.
So what are your ideas?

My opinion is meaningless because I know nothing about you and you've given no clue as to your interests, likes/dislikes, budget, etc.
That said, if I was a 17 or 18 year making this decision here's what I would do... for the reasons above I'm NOT suggesting this is right for you...
1.) Forget including anywhere in Europe or the UK. You can easily visit those countries with cheap, short flights right from home.
2.) Drop the US entirely until you're 21 years old and allowed to go into bars/nightclubs.
3.) Forget flying in/out of only 4 international destinations over the course of an entire year. That's incredibly restricting.
4.) Fly first to Thailand - arguably the best/easiest backpacker destination on the planet for first time travellers - and explore SE Asia from there. That will teach you how to travel. When you're bored then you have the entire world open to you... If you still have your Korea craving then go there, or consider Central/South America for a completely different vibe than SE Asia.

Oh, and very important...
5.) Don't worry so much about your friends. You're making the big commitment for a year long trip... they're only coming along for the ride for a few short months. It's YOUR tip, do what is best for you and have your friends accommodate your schedule and plans.
Lastly, what kind of budget are you looking at? You've chosen some super expensive destinations in developed countries. Do you have a big inheritance that's burning a hole in your pocket? Haha...
