Hey,
I am travelling to Oz in June/early July most likely. Where are you planning on starting?
I am going to travel for a bit first probably up the East Coast to like the Whitsundays, Fraser Island etc, maybe do a tour depending on price and then find work in Sydney or Melbourne.
I did have a look on GAP360 and spoke to a few friends who have been and said it is best to take a CV and hand it in to agencies as soon as you get there and use online job sites which are more successful than the companies who don't necessarily find what you want.

I know there are so many choices to make when organising your working holiday! The biggest decision is whether to go through a work package, or try and set up on your own.
Of course, we're going to say that our Absolute Oz work package is the best way to do it! However, we really do have some great reasons why!!
-Are you going alone?

Nice way to frame it. Others (myself included) might argue that this choice is actually rather trivial to make, and doesn't feature anywhere on the list of important decisions wrt a WHV.

Walking into any hostel in Sydney, Melbourne or another city with an international airport is also a great way to meet other travellers in the same position.
however it does mean you'll be up and working quicker than if you just turn up!

I don't know about the interviews, but any traveller arriving in Australia and going through the easy process to set up their bank account and get their TFN will be ready to start after that same first week. I imagine getting a TFN is still the longest wait, and you really can only send in those forms once you've arrived in Australia, so you're not exactly selling your advantage here.
(Full disclosure: I'm affiliated with absolutely no one, and just an independent-minded backpacker who did everything for himself back in the day, and thinks most companies like yours are kinda 'preying' on the insecurities of new backpackers, while if they'd just discover for themselves how easy it'd be to get set up, that'd give them a big initial confidence-boost. (Don't get me wrong, I'm still in favour of you existing, as some backpackers wouldn't go at all without companies like yours, but I do think your marketing messages need some independent pushback.))

Not to mention how the above is nothing but a marketing message! Would really like to remove it all for blatantly breaching the but happy to see an open discussion on the pros and cons of such services for the benefit of those doing their research.

Yes I guess the post is 'marketing', however I think having a debate about the pros and cons of travelling with a company, does give the company itself the right to get involved and back itself up - right?
It's good to see an independent backpacker like yourself (Sander) putting forward the pros of travelling solo - and myself (as a backpacker) have enjoyed the benefit of both 'winging it' and organising a tour before I go. I adore doing both for very different reasons.
Yes you can head over to Australia, CV in hand, confident in your dazzling smile winning over the employer. Or you could spend weeks trailing from bar to restaurant to hostel, each 'No' dragging down your confidence along with with your ever decreasing bank balance.
With the work service we offer, you have support and advice as to how you are to go about finding work, a CV review service, an online database where employer and employee can upload information and contact each other directly, a really informative orientation session to introduce you to the life of 'backpacker jobs' and assistance for 12 months should you find yourself at any point, out of work and in need of help.

I feel the word 'preying' is a little strong - as we always encourage people to research us as a company, travel forums like lonely planet and the destination that they're going to. Additionally we have independent FB forums, so open discussions about using the package, talking to past and presents customers, keeps the decisions completely open to the individual.
Yes you can walk into a hostel and make friends, however being in that situation where you fly over to the other side of the world, on your own, as a young novice traveller can be for many - pretty terrifying! It certainly was for me!
You might be the guy that walks into the hostel and automatically has a bunch of friends, however what if you're the one in that sits on their top bunk bed, skyping their family and home friends the whole time because they're nervous to integrate. It's not so fun for that guy.
By knowing that you have a week of activities organised, a group of people that you're automatically friends with, who you have also been in contact with before you go, gives some people that confident to actually go away.
Our strap line is 'expert for first time travellers' - we're certainly not for everyone. However for those who need that helping hand, or that confidence boost, or the 24/7 emergency support to appease they're nervous parents - that's who we're for.

Yeah, I'm actually the very opposite of that. Which is why doing everything myself and realizing just how welcoming general hostel atmosphere is, was such a big confidence boost. I could just sit there, doing my own thing, and still effortlessly get to talking with fellow travellers. Because that's how it is. And I think it's import to tell new backpackers this, to help them see that they don't need a company, and to make them aware that a phrase like "if you're the one in that sits on their top bunk bed, skyping their family and home friends the whole time because they're nervous to integrate. It's not so fun for that guy." is just scaremongering.
(And actually, when I'd be sitting there with my laptop, that'd be because I'm an introvert and needed some quiet me-time, not because I'd be nervous to integrate. "Integrating" wouldn't be what I'd be looking for at all. A major point in favour of travelling is that you can get away from integrating, and just be yourself, and that fellow travellers will just accept you as such, without any preconceived notions that you have to conform to.)

Have to say in all the time i've been (was) travelling it's not as easy as suggested (for me anyhow) that you just make friends by walking into the right place (may be right place right time more applicable here)... For me, after reading in the lonely planet on my Thailand stop off before Oz that 'go and sit in Gullivers bar at the end of Kaoh San Road in Bangkok and you'll make friends for life'; well it never happened for me (except for some you really wouldnt!) and to be honest was a bit the same all around Australia (and i'd like to think im not THAT unapproachable).... I went with gap experience and in hindsight my trip was over priced but I at least got thrown in the deep end with people all in the same boat as me (sweet pun seeing as we did a boat trip - yes!). What they did for me in county with jobs etc is debatable (although this gapyear360 trip looks a bit better and half the price I paid 10 years ago!) but without their support and trip councilors I would never have met the great friends I did... As the gap representative says it's not for all and I certainly wont be using support companies like this now but when i was just leaving colledge I was grateful for the support...
We appreciate when travellers can weigh in with personal opinion but climber, it would be better if you were up front about your role with this company. It certainly looks bad for the company when any open discussion about such services is immediately swarmed by employees.
Credit where it's due for your brand monitoring though....
