Like with almost questions on this forum about Visas you fail to mention the single most important piece of information: What is your nationality and where will you be flying from?

Wherever you're, if you want to get visa for Vietnam, use a travel agent is the most simple way.
From what I've experienced, administrative formalities in Vietnam are complicated, they require many things. But if you use a travel agents, they will help you everything.
When I travel to Vietnam for the first time, I also use a travel agent, you can take a look at their website -snip-. They're quite cheap and have good service
If you want to heed ahnkina's advice (and it's obviously just an advert for a travel agency), fine! But you'll be paying for something you can do just as easily yourself. As a New Zealander, I could either apply to the Vietnamese Embassy in Wellington for the visa or I can get a visa on arrival at the airport in Vietnam. But, as Terry states above, you haven't stated your nationality nor how you will arrive in Vietnam so it's difficult to offer definitive advice.
