In case of planning to go to Europe,ie from California,what are the
major factors that i need to take into account?
Well I couldn't ever profess to give you a comprehensive list of things to consider, but some of the main things are...
1/ Where are you going?
2/ How do you intend to travel between places? Eurorail is an excellent option and can be cheap, but should be compared against individual train fares too
3/ Currency - not all European countries use the Euro, so it's best to prepare and get a bit of cash for each place before you head out.
4/ Accommodation - are you going to wing it when you get there, or try and book beforehand? The first is often prepared, but leaves risks.
5/ When are you going? Europe in the summer is a very different place to Europe in the winter, and an entirely different wardrobe is needed for different months!
Off the top of my head they are some of the main considerations, my advice would be to be prepared, but flexible too as you'll no doubt want to have some give in your plans once you start travelling.
You might want to ask some more specific questions so we can help you a bit more.
I guess, the main things you need to work out are:
- What are you interested in? What do you want to see? Cities or natural attractions?
- How long can you go for?
- What is your budget?

Well, I would say travel by train is the best way to known Europe: raileurope.com might be a site. But you can also reserve at national railways websites.

I am from Europe and would love to help, but as mentioned earlier, we all would need more specific questions to be able to help you.
Still, there are some things, that are different:
Traveling around.
Renting a car could be quite expensive, so I would recommend train. It is cheap, very comfortable and it will take you almost everywhere. If you want to visit more of the east part, the train would be great. For example traveling from Prague to Vienna and Budapest is comfortable and fast. (Just a note: I am from the Czech republic, so if you plan to go there and have any questions, just let me know! There is much more to see, than "just" Prague. Wheres Prague is a must see. )
Languages
English is becoming a "Lingua Franca", but... It would be quite handy, if you know at least some, the basics from every language of the country you are going to visit. When I say basic, I mean "Hello, My name is, Thank you, Please, Can you help me, Beer - if going to Prague - etc." It really makes a difference, when an American tourist going to Europe do take some time to learn at least the basic words. (And you can still read them from your pocket dictionary. You will see... When you show, you do try, the locals will be more willing to help. And you will enjoy the journey from a different perspective.
Money
Make sure, you will have some cash. Credit card is still not accepted everywhere, so just have it in mind.
