Thailand - Lonely Planet or Rough Guide?

We are a middle-aged couple travelling to Thailand for three weeks next December. I normally take L.P. wherever I go, but am wondering if the Rough Guide might be better in this case? We particularly need reliable information regarding mid-range accommodation. Any advice or suggestions welcome.

Forget both of them.
Everything is available free on the web. Just read and print off the bits you need.
If you 'Must' buy a guide, then go to a S/H shop. They're everywhere. And quite honestly, one that's 5 years old will be still be as up to date as you need.

I agree on flying bob.. Everything is on the internet.

A friendly reminder, just watch out on your things. There's plenty of swindlers and pickpockets even in malls.

Thanks, I'll be careful! I've been to Thailand and other places in S.E. Asia before, plus India twice, so know a few scams. I've since got Lonely Planet - Thailand Islands and Beaches for some info.about where we might like to stay.
Any suggestions or recommendations, apart from Koh Sumui (been there) and Phuket?
Has anyone been to Koh Lanta?

I always wonder why one need a guide book for accommodation, especially in Thailand...

I can understand you use one to know where to go and what to see, but I don't see the point to use on for a bed or a drink...

Get a copy in Khao San road. Thousands of copies for really good price.

S E Asia on a shoestring lonely planet was my bible while travelling se asia for four months, you can buy copied versions of them all out there though

If you 'Really' feel that you can't travel without either one of them, then I suggest looking in S.H. shops before you pay the stupid prices they're charging, for everything that can be found free on-line.
A L.P./R.G. that's 5 or 6 years old, will be fine.
Should be able to pick one up for €2 or so.
