You seem to being doing something similar to me mate! Im going to oz beginning of august for 6 weeks...but im flying into melbourne then making my way in sydney...in hindsight i should of flown into sydney because i wont have much time in melbourne as im doing the oz experience from sydney to cairns but hey ho! I reckon you'll need longer than 3 weeks, 4 week minimum
It's possible to do the trip in 3 weeks, you'll just need to identify what you want to do and not do much else, if you go with Greyhound they might do overnight bus trips which would let you sleep while you travel. I'd recommend:
- Sydney for a couple of days
- Blue Mountains for a day trip
- Byron Bay for a couple of days
- Fraser Island for a few days
- Mackay (hiking and swimming in Eungella National Park) only if you have time
- Airlie Beach (access to the Whitsundays) for a few days
- Cairns for access to Cape Tribulation, the Atherton Tablelands, snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef and Mission Beach
I think if you fly you'll miss Fraser Island and the Whitsundays which are definitely highlights.
We might be able to stretch it to 4 weeks, depending on whether we decide to go to Fiji or not. What would you recommend? Is fiji worth it? Just sounds exotic!!
Trying to get flights sorted at the moment. Where did people find was the cheapest place. We are going to Thailand, Australia, Fiji (Maybe) and then LA (Maybe overground to NY). All in 3 months! Can't wait now.
There's 2/3 of us going, all 22 so is it best to book hostels before or just get them when we are out there?

Do what im doing and book them whilst your out there, otherwise you'll have a feeling of being rushed, because youve booked set times and dates to arrive if you get me, if theres 3 of you i'd definately think about doing the OZ or Kiwi Experience
Yeh that was the feeling that I had! I might book somewhere for Cairns and then just play it by ear. Can anyone recommend any where in Cairns?
I reckon we will just stick with the greyhound to save a bit of money, as we are all pretty poor!
