Aside from the standard sites (beer halls, etc.) within the city, I might suggest visiting Dachau. It was the first concentration camp and is easy to get to from Munich on a day trip. Depressing? yes. But also very interesting.
You can find more information about events, nearby sites, etc. at:

Id second Dachau. I find Munich to be very boring and 1 week you should really get out of the city. Id suggest maybe even a night or two in Innsbruck, Austria?
And as I recall theres a large castle nearby Munich as well?
Thanks!
I run a bar and enjoy good food/booze. I've scanned this lovely sites features' on such things but are there any places in particular you guys might suggest. Fine dining to dive bars?
My friend who lives in Bavaria says I'll be there for the end of "Carnival". What exactly does this entail?
In Munich? Its kinda a posh town with not much of an underground/dive bar scene. Atleast I didnt find any.
Carnival is a catholic celebration, Bavaria is a Catholic region of Germany.
Not sure when they celebrate it.
Carneval in Munich means some bold customes, a parade, some beer and drinking and some partying in the streets. Not nearly as heavy as the partying in Cologne, but ok. Grab yourself some confetti and a silly party-hat plus some grease paint for your face.
