Hi everyone, I will be in Beijing for 4 nights and just wondering what are the best things to see and do in that time? I am spending one day at the great wall, and another in the forbidden city/tiananmen square but wondering what to do with the other days. I am stay in dongcheng district. Thanks all!
hi shefftommo,
i'm chinese, live in shenyang city, china.i have been Beijing 10-20 time.
perhaps, you can visit the Tiantan park, middle, south and north sea park,Yiheyuan park.
also you can take underground to see some place.
good luck
p.s.
i hope that i can be a guide for bike or motorcycle travell in china.
Thanks Tanzhig! we are travelling through Shenyang (train from Harbin to Beijing). If we hired bikes and you were out guide for the day, that would be fantastic. We are 3 English lads from Sheffield and we will be there next January.
hi shefftommo, you are welcome for my respond.also welcome you visit shenyang city.
i have not three bike for hire but you could buy cheap bike or other people hire bike.there are some beauty spots for travell.good luck.
You could also see the Summer Palace- it's a UNESCO World Heritage site. I wasn't too impressed by it, myself, but many people consider it a 'must see'.
In the same quarter of Beijing are the 2008 Olympic buildings- the "Bird's Nest" and the bubble-walled building that was used for swimming. Those are interesting- but I just saw the outside, as they charge a ridiculous rate to see inside.
Wangfujing Dajie is a good place to hang out- a bit touristy, but lots of shopping and restaurants, as well as street food at night. Plus there's a large foreign-language bookstore, so you can stock up on novels to read.
Sanlitun district is famous for its bars and nightlife... Never been there- just heard about it.
Other Beijing musts (besides what you are already planning);
- Temple of Hevean!
- Summer Palace
- Bird's Nest
- Some historic hutongs
- Wangfujing Dajie
Hi shefttoomo,
Since you're coming only in Jan 2012, isn't it too early to plan now?
If you were into clubbing/pub scene, I can take you guys to some of it then.
Motorcycle are banned in Beijing fyi, only electric bicycle is allowed!
Traffic here are crazy, so better plan your trip using the subway, and foreigners are not allowed to drive here either.
When you're making booking for your stay, make sure that place allow foreigner to stay, not all hotel/inn can accomodate foreigners, especially the cheap one!
Hi saichow,
Yes it may seem early but we are staying in Harbin before Beijing (For the Ice Festival), and Hong Kong after Beijing (for the CNY). Because we are seeing Harbin and Hong Kong at peak times thats why we have booked so early.
We are staying in a nice international hotel called Beijing Traditional View Hotel in Dongcheng area.
If you fancy a night out on the town with us feel free to join. We will be in Beijing 14th - 18th Jan 2012.
Tom
