Where/ When should I buy a plane ticket?

Hello!

As far as I know standby doesn't exist anymore in the sense you are describing. Turning up at the airport without a ticket will usually get you the most expensive ticket.

I'm confused what advise you need. You say you only have one hurdle of getting your flight from Aus to LA, but then ask for advice on booking flights to multiple cities?

For the Aus to LA. July is probably a high season since its winter in Aus then. They do seem to have deals, but they pop up at irregular times. Just be aware that if you try to wait until you are in Aus, you will still need an onward fight when you arrive in the country.

Good to know, I wasn't sure if I would be able to buy my flight home while IN AUS. Yeah, I just wasn't sure if I should buy my Tickets to Philippines and AUS while in Taiwan, but looks like my best bet is doing it all from home.

Thanks!

Can't you use a Circle Pacific ticket for the whole thing, or do you want flexibility? One-ways are damn expensive, and especially in prime season/July!

I haven't heard of the circle-pacific ticket, I will look into that, thanks!

Ah you haven't actually bought any of your tickets yet then. If you want to message me I can give you the name of an agent in San Fran, that put my original around the world ticket together, she was great to deal with and had the best price I could find. This site wont let me put the email address in this thread. Worth trying just to see what she can put together.

Another option is buy a ticket from Aus to New Zealand. You can get one for as cheap as $100, that gives you your outward bound ticket so you can get in Aus, but then you take a chance on getting a good deal back to LA once you are in. But this way it gives you the flexibility to make your plans as you go.
