geocachers --high tech treasure hunters

Hey Forum--
I just recently got into geocaching and found it is a great way to spend time outdoors while getting some exercise, travel, and reward! Is anyone else into this? For those who don't know.. it's a global scavenger hunt that uses gps technology to locate items hidden by other participants. I'm currently getting involved with this geocache hunt put -snip-

Hi there,

It is an awesome way to do outdoors!

There is a "global" geocaching website but some countries have their local communities and websites which are usually more suitable for the country and the region.
Many countries (eg in Europe) have small communities / authorities as well that regulate where tourists can go to make sure that "increased traffic" will not bother the ecosystem. Thus, country based forums/websites are much better.

Unfortunately, in most countries geocaching is almost unknown, even in Europe. Obviously, in developing countries it basically doesn't exist.
I was thinking to start placing boxes in Asia and Latin America but soon realized that probably no one will ever try to find them. Plus in certain countries (like China) foreigners are not allowed to use gps.

In Hungary (where I am from) geocaching became a mainstream outdoor activity, there are tens of housands of members and thousands of boxes hidden all over the country.

Even if you don't have a gps - it can still be fun. Once with my friend we found the location from a brief description and it took two hours crawling in deep snow and digging holes before we found the box!

I can just encourage anybody who likes outdoors to get involved in this movement!

yeah, i'm a geocacher, although still a relatively new one. It's good to explore places you live near but maybe didn't even know existed. I have got my friend into it as well :D
