Hey guys, myself and my boyfriend are heading to Aus at the start of December for 5 weeks. Spending NYE in Sydney but apart from that our plans are so far very...well... unplanned! we are sticking to the east coast and hopefully want to see the usual attractions.GBR, fraser island etc.
You'll have no problem meeting like-minded travellers in Aussie, probably even a few fellow Scots. I am a Kiwi and have visited Aussie several times, including a backpacking stint 3 years ago, plus I have been living on the Gold Coast for 9 months with my husband (we are about to return to NZ shortly). I know the east coast fairly well, so if you have any specific questions feel free to PM me. In the meantime I can tell you - the whole of the east coast will be very busy at that time of year with many international backpackers, and families making the most of the kids school break. Book ahead for things like tours and accommodation, especially in the popular places such as Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns. You'll have no problem filling up your 5 weeks with wonderful experiences, hopefully you can schedule in a break to spend some downtime on the beach somewhere along the way too If you plan to fly between any of your destinations I also suggest booking flights in advance, they become quite pricey throughout the holiday period so if you book ahead you can probably get a bargain. I understand you might not want to be tied to meeting flights on a certain date though! Theres just so many things to see and do I don't even know what to tell you first - I guess it depends on if you're more city people or outdoorsy people. I can offer you sound advice on Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast (especially Noosa), and Fraser Island...so let me know what I can do for you!
