Hey all,
Your itinerary sounds fine.
If you don't mind traveling overland, Hanoi is one of the most convenient gateways to get to China. From Hanoi you can buy train ticket either to Nanning or Beijing without much difficulty.
G'luk!
If you have good company a convenient amount of time to travel, I'd suggest stopping by a few places between HCMC and Hanoi, as there are plenty of things to see and do in the midlands of the country. I'm not sure what your intentions are between Hanoi and Beijing, but unless you're thinking about making stops in between, the most convenient thing to do would be fly. It is much easier to take trains around China domestically.
Hope that helps, happy travels.
Hey - Thanks for your responses. Yeah i was thinking just catching the train from Hanoi to maybe Shanghai or Hong Kong, haven't decided where to head in China yet, but definately want to make my way to Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors. Yeah i was thinking of staying a 4-5 days in the midlands - heard its a nice part of the world .
Cheers.
