Sanity check on 2 month Canada itinerary?

Me and my gf will have exactly 2 months in Canada; I love nature and hiking and stunning sights to blow my mind away, enjoy photography and good food, and want a decent mix of being out hiking and exploring bustling cities (including maybe seeing a museum if there's any particularly good ones, or catching some live music somewhere).

first of all what time of year are you going?

In the summer time this is completely possible but in the winter the roads can get bad especially in the mountains and you will have to allow for a lot more time getting from place to place.

starting at the top I would say you don't need to spend 3 days in Whistler. It is a nice place but is only a few hours drive from Vancouver and could easily be a day trip or an over night stay. In the Vancouver area there are a lot of hikes and ocean based adventures you can go on so it would not be hard to fill a whole week there. I would recomend the hosteling international, hostile at Jericho Beach if you want a quieter more beach type base in Vancouver or the cambie street hostel if you are looking for something in the heart of down town.

Moving down in Kelowna you are getting into the wine region of BC. if you are interested in wine it is a great place to wander around and do wine tours. in the summer time you also have the option of heading to Salmon Arm from Kelowna and going house boating on the Shuswap.

onto the Banff, Calgary Lake louise section.
I would say that Lake Louise is something you could do as a day trip from Banff. it is only about a 45 minute drive away from the town of Banff and you can easily take in the lake and the town in a day trip.

If you are looking to hike this would be a good time to do it. In Banff and in Kananaskis Country there are a lot of good hikes. I would recommend taking a look at a book called "Where the locals hike in the Canadian Rockies" it is a really nice guide to finding the trails and adventures that are often over looked. There are also a lot of great hot springs on your way from Vancouver to Calgary and it is worth it to try one out. ( if you are interested I can give you directions to a hot spring that is mostly some rock pools on the side of a river bank. really nice and not the big public swimming pool model hot spring you are mostly going to find.)

next I would have to suggest a stop off at the Columbia ice field on your way to jasper because glaciers are just cool.

I have not been to Vancouver island and can not really help you there except to say that I have heard tofino is a great place to visit.

As for Toronto if you are going to Niagara falls you should also spend some time in the Niagra on the lake area. it is a small town surrounded by winerys. This is a great place to try ice wine and is quite a cute town. it is also filled with b&bs.

I would say that 3 days is not enough time to really enjoy Montréal . it is one of the older parts of Canada and as such has a lot of beautiful old buildings and a rich history. It is an entertainment hub and has a reputation as being Vegas before Vegas was big. lots of night clubs and music and a lively circus and street performer community.

hope this helps. let me know if you want more.
