In my opinion mate you can get some people on here and tel you some great places, But honestly just read some travel books and such do some research find out what interests you. I leave in 7 days for a 1 year backpacking trip and I came on here asking the same questions as you, But no one here knows you or your budget or what kind of work you like. Just do some reaching and find out what city's and towns stand out to you and what activity's you want to do well working and traveling.
Also question is very blunt, do you wanna stay in one place for 6 months or move around? In my case I'm landing in Sydney and working my way north, I google the cheapest hostels and I wonder around and hand out resume to find a job is how i am going about it, if you can't find work your not looking hard enough.
