Taking an iPad travelling?

Hi,

Im taking my ipad and other gadgets as well, It can be very helpful at times. But all you need to take care of your stuff in mostly asian countries..as there is no security for ur stuff....so if u r going with someone then its fine..if not, then u need to care ur stuff everywhere..Just dont showoff or use ipad in the public..just use that in ur hotel room. U gonna b ok.

I travelled parts of Europe and the Middle East for a month with a Wi-Fi iPad and I'm glad I did. I kept it at the back of my photo backpack (containing a DSLR body, two lenses, and a flash) and as this is the one item I will never let leave my sight it was perfect security for my iPad. It was always against my body and only taken out in my accommodation or in a quiet cafe with a hotspot. Just be wary of sending private data like banking details via unsecure Wi-Fi connections.

As I was travelling with no set plans I found it useful for booking last minute accommodation and researching the next town at my convenience, rather than waiting to use slow hostel PCs. I think it would be invaluable for keeping in touch with family for a 6 month trip.

Mine is also a 1 so if you get an iPad 2 you'll have a built-in camera! Two birds, one stone.

Best of luck!

Kellie

I got myself a Netbook for going away, cheaper and not too much heavier - with more on the machine!

I've got an iPad 2. It's great, but I was wondering if you can plug it in, when you're traveling, to recharge it. Do you need a power adapter when traveling to other countries, with different voltages?

If you are likely to have access to a PC for a little while, you could always charge using just the USB plug.
Personally, I always have a travel adapter for camera gear anyway and you can get universal adapters with all the pins in one unit, instead of buying an adapter for each region. I haven't needed a transformer for any of my devices.

Kellie
