travel agencies vietnam

Hi!

Katrina,
I went on a 1 day tour of HB with Sinh Cafe. Largest tour company in VN and they do as well as anyone IMO. Get at least 3 written quotes once in HAN. I would go with the lowest quote for a 1 day tour. Multiple day tours are different. What boat you are on can make a difference. Read and you will see what I mean.

It can feel like a cattle drive once at the boats. You are herded off your bus and onto a boat. You will have no clue if this is the boat you paid for or not. There were 12 of us on my boat and 5 different prices. One was double what I paid. Same boat, same lunch, they just did not check beyond their hotel tour desk. Shop around before handing over your money is my best advice.

Learn to bargain. Almost everything for sale is negotiable. They quote a price, you counter offer. Hopefully you will reach a price both are happy with. Walk away if you do not like their price or attitude. Good luck.

Hey Mike,

Thanks a lot for your answer. In searching online thus far, we found something that isn't 200 US (yay!), but round a hundred (and five!). The place we're staying at offered us a similar tour for a similar price, but said they could book the one we found (the cheapest one thus far) for us if we wanted to..either way, we've got a bit of time when we arrive to check a few places out (and these guys we'll be with) and see what they offer. It's nuts how the people on your boat had so many different prices..gwah. I'm horrible at bargaining, but the people I'm going with are alright at it, I think, so we could find something reasonable by the end, I think.

Lots and lots of thanks and all the best

Kat

Katrina,
I love your name by the way. Sounds so regal to I don't want to use 'Kat'.

Great that you are doing online research. Some of those blogs let you know how unpleasant some overnight tours turned out. DO NOT commit or pay for anything online. Trust me, it will be much cheaper when you are standing at their tour desk. They know just down the street are dozens of others selling the same tour. Let the guys take the lead when bargaining. Get 3 written quotes and I am sure your hotel will match it. They all build in a profit, some will accept less profit in order to make their quota of sales.

Good luck to you and tell me how it turns out.

I have a good friend who's a in Hanoi - he will be happy to help you find a good cruise at a good price

from my experience, you get what you pay for with cruises (don't go too low, you might be very sorry)

Hi!

Anyone have any experience with travel agencies in Vietnam? We would like to get a good deal to visit Halong Bay (from Hanoi). I heard that there are many travel agencies that try to rip you off..anyone had any experience where they found really good deals doing the same? Or any other similar tips?!

Thanks in advance,

Katarina

ps if there are any posts I missed, feel free to mention them!

Hi Katrina,

There are a lot of travel agencies, i myself feel so hesitated whenever I travel even I'm a local person, living in Vietnam.

As my experiences, if you want to visit Halong Bay from Hanoi, Phoenix Cruiser is your good choice. They have the office in Hanoi and you can make a phone call or send an email. I don't remember their website, why don't you go on internet and search "Phoenix Cruiser"

Another company, of course good one, is South Pacific.

Hope it's useful.

Anna

P/S: And if you travel to Hanoi, i will invite you a beer.
