Definitely Thailand. It has much more for the tourist in beaches, shops, eateries and things to see and do. Even the sex industry which a muslim country like Malaysia will never have. It even has two English language newspapers and English language films at cinemas.
The one annoyance is that Thailand is tough on how long you stay. As to Malaysia, there has been some anti christian and anti jewish feelings in the last few years which could deteriorate into trouble for any western tourist at a future date, like in southern Egypt where they are now talking of separate beaches for men and women, etc.
Just for your information, Malaysia has several English language newspapers and English films at cinemas too. Anyway, Malaysia has one of the world's strictest forms of media censorship.
We welcome guests or western tourists from all around the world. Freedom of religion is enshrined in the Malaysian Constitution. People here respect each others belief. So I don't see by any chance that western tourists will get into trouble at a future date.
