There are plenty of buses everyday into Thailand from many cities in Malaysia. Probably your cheapest, easiest option. There are trains as well. Not as frequent, but rail is safer than the roads if that is a concern.
It maybe the cheapest but it takes alot of time to get there. My travel style is getting there fast but spend the least when i'm there and enjoy to the fullest. I would usually take their mini-bus transport around Thailand because they are cheap and fast too.
