Leave your gadgets in your hotel room. Internet connection will be available in your accommodation or else you can request for it. It will be better to do your work from your hotel room rather than on the way.
If you plan to do webpage development or serious work via internet, it might be challenging. In developed countries, such as Europe, Canada, U.S., Japan or Australia, no problem. But in many parts of Russia, Asia, Africa, Latin America, etc. the internet will be either too slow and/or too expensive. The internet in most hotels in China (unless it's a 5-star hotel in Beijing or Shanghai) is excruciatingly slow. And not at all cheap. Not to mention that all the good websites (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, wordpress, blogspot, flickr, etc.) are blocked. You have to use a VPN, which slows it down even more.
As for security, no way would I leave a computer in my hotel room- in any country. But most hotels have a safe- if not in the room, then at the front desk.
