Nicaragua is quite dangerous still. Ecuador has seen a recent increase in robberies and even some kidnappings. Colombia is as bad as ever.
Places like Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil and the like are reasonably safe though that does not mean that you won't be pick pocketed.
If unsure, take a flight.
Are you kidding?? Peru has many robberies and many crashes...Ecuador doesn't have as many as people say. Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia are pretty much equal in robberies. In Peru it is not made public because of tourism and they don't want to scare off the tourist so they keep everything hush hush.

Not to mention the comment on Nicaragua being unsafe....I have never been there either, but Nicaragua unsafe? Come on. But this is the case with almost any answer of Cyberia: it's always very general/broad and never do I have the impression he/she has been somewhere based on that. Except maybe a few places. Oh well, we just have to live with it
