There are buses, trains and CHEAP flights around Europe. Why do you want to go all the way to Switzerland? Not a lot there to justify such a journey.
Yes, Eurorail passes are expensive. Travelling has become very expensive these days so try to avoid long trips like Switzerland. Maybe western Germany instead?

Be VERY cautious about the so called cheap flights !
If you have luggage, and yes, a backpack is BIG luggage for greedy cheap flight operators, don't be shocked to pay MORE for you bag, than you paid for yourself... and then, they have a mysterious secret extra costs list. Then, the average "cheap" ticket is paid for between 2 - 3 times the original advertised price.
The cheap flights, are masters in scamming their passengers, and exhaustingly unfriendly as well. (Perhaps you must pay € 25 in advance, for ONE smile on departure.
Those operators also manage to fly from the most inconvenient distant airports, so that from "wanted" destination to "wanted" destination, you need to add still 2 long (time) and sometimes costly ground transportations, when compared to normal flights.
