My favorite souvenir is the bavarian goose down duvet I bought in Munich. It's been on my bed every night for over 20 years and still as good as new. In general, my favorite souvenirs are ones I use/see everyday, rather than the silly nicknacks and postcards all the gift shops try to sell you. Actually, I'd rather spend money on unique experiences rather than things to lug around and take home but when I do buy something, I get something useful that will remind me of the great times while I use it in my everyday life. I think my next trip I'll get t-shirts because I don't own a lot of interesting printed t-shirts and they are great conversation starters.
The didgeridoo I bought in Australia still holds a warm spot in my heart, though I hardly ever play it anymore...

I like to buy paintings by street artists. I did that in Malaysia and Hangzhou, China. They are still on my walls.
Aside from that, I don't buy many souvenirs, but I save my old passports, with all the visas and stamps in them.
My North Korean revolutionary painting is probably my highlight. Though my pure Pitcairn honey and Riga Black Balsams tasted pretty good as well. Still have the bottles of those on my bookshelves.
I don't have one favorite item. I collect wind chimes, shells and rocks/beach coral from all of our destinations (when possible). Each one is special in it's own way. About one third of my chimes are from travels (family/friends add to it when they go away or find something really cool. I have, at last count, 42 chimes.)
I have over 1000 shells and it's probably closer to 2000. Rocks and beach coral are in the 500 range. As I keep saying... If Caligula had prevailed with shells being currency, I'd be quite wealthy as I have some rare 'gems'.

A sarong I bought on the island of Koh Tao, Thailand. I loved the colours and pattern, and the printed elephants. I didn't really bargain hard for it, but its lasted through 4 years of traveling, and been a comfortable, if daring choice of clothing, my beach towel in Australia, my bath towel in Vietnam, my bottom sheet in flea bitten hotels in India, my top sheet in the UK. It's starting to get a bit tattered now, so maybe that means it's time to revisit Thailand.
My favorite souvenirs are the snow globes i collect in every country i travel to. everytime i see these collections on our shelves, it reminds me of my travel experiences..
I buy small cast or carved animals: a small wooden tortoise from Hoi An, a bronze elephant from Luang Prabang, a marble dragon from Hanoi and a clay dog whistle from Hoi An
I've always regretted not buying that didgeridoo, but they don't come in size small!
