Australia working summer advice!

Hi,
Would really like some advice from people who have worked in Australia as a backpacker/ traveller before.
Myself and a mate (both Agriculture students from NZ, 19 and 20yo guys) are looking to head to aussie for a backpacking/ working summer. We would like to get jobs or atleast working hostels sorted prior to heading over. Our main ambitions are:
-Meet new people
-Get some new experiences
-Make some money
-Spend New Years somewhere awesome
Basically we want to work hard and play hard!
If anyone has experiece doing a similar thing, would love to hear about it. Accomodation for fruit picking/ ag jobs and your experiences with this would be great, read alot of mixed reviews about working hostels. But they sound like an awesome way to meet people and get jobs if you get the right one. Also dont really know where would be the best area to go, so again any info would be awesome.

If you end up looking for any work in hospitality the number one advise would be to get your R.S.A. When applying its pretty much the first thing they expect of you next to hours.

I can't really give any advice on the fruit picking front as I don't know to much about it. If you come to Perth defiantly stay in Fremantle. You'll love it.

E-mail me if you need anything or are heading over this way!
Jay.
