I am flying to Melbourne on the 15th October and stopping in Singapore for the changeover. I am only there for two and a half hours but someone has just put the fear of god in me asking me if I have vaccinations and that Melbourne will be checking to see if I have them before they let me in the country!!! Someone tell me this is not true please! I don't think I could handle the stress! I leave in 4 weeks I cannot get immunised now!
You have no need to worry as this is definitely not true! Firstly you won't need vaccinations if you are only in Singapore for 2.5 hours- you won't even be leaving the airport in that time will you? And secondly no-one in Melbourne will check if you have had vaccinations as you don't need any to enter Australia!
If you were spending any significant length of time in SE Asia it's advisable to have certain jabs but even in that case you still wouldn't be checked when you arrived in Australia.
Hi Ian,
I went to Melbourne last year, and stopped of in Singapore for the changeover too.
When i arrived at Melbourne i never got asked anything about vaccinations.
Hope this helps!
Chelsea
Thanks fellas, I guess common sense told me that was the case but when you haven't been further than Cyrpus before its all pretty alien so you could tell me that you have to wear a funny hat to enter Russia and I'd believe you.
Thanks
Ian
No problem, enjoy your travels!
Hi, I frequent Melbourne from Singapore for business and travel with my family, and there is no such requirement as far as i am aware. Singapore's pretty up to date with all the health requirements and is also sanitized so there are no particular viruses you need to be afraid of. That being said, i remember this one time when i was staying at Fraser Place Melbourne, someone had mentioned about vaccinations and stuff but only if you've traveled or are from 'high risk' countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Africa etc. So as long as you haven't been there and/or not from these places, you should be fine!
