Starting in Bangkok!

Hello!
I am a 23/ all most 24 year old female, arriving in Bangkok on the 19th of November and will be staying in the S.E Asia region until mid January.
My plan is to travel around...id like to experience what is on offer on a tight budget! Other than that, my main goal is to enjoy myself
Would like to meet some like minded people, to share company with and the over all experience..

lucky you...have been to thailand a few times and cant get enough of it.especially the chillaxed atmosphere and the food!!

...looking forward to it...Any recommendations on area's to visit?

on my firt trip there, i did the whole touristy thing in bangkok...the palaces, temples and also the riveru kwai, tiger temple etc..floating mkt was a drab///but on subsequent trips, just went and chilled on the beaches....phuket...stayed on patong beach...unfortunately touristy, but cheapest accommodation along there only...most of the more quaint beaches had more expensive accommodation...phi phi was good, samui, krabi were excellent...food and beer is cheap...lotsa touts..so do your research..
what sorta holiday do you want..beach? or like forests and stuff?

I have no huge directive really..i would like to visit a few beaches all right-possibly visit some of the islands, id like to spend some of my trip relaxing..however..often times i notice i do like to keep active. Temples.. id like to visit also, however i travelled to India a couple of years back and found myself visiting temple after temple (so many to see), on that note, i guess ideally i would like to visit some of the more interesting ones. If its ok to ask, have you visited Vietnam?

i am indian...and let me tell you there is so much more to see in india than temples!! if you ever think of goin bk, i will tell ya all the best places...i have not been to vietnam, but i have a 2 week break in the end of october and it is in my shortlist of places to visit...are you thinking of visiting there? how long are you going to be in bkk/thailand...
am currently in brisbane

Dont misunderstand me...i did more than just visit temples! I really enjoyed India, infact i went a second time. I have no immediate plan to visit again-for the moment at least. I have interest in Vietnam so most definitely have it in mind to go there. Have no idea yet how long i intend to spend in Bangkok....i will be in the S.E Asia region until mid January-that i can say for certain!

i wouldnt spend more than 3 days in bangkok...without a big rush, one can see the "sights" in and around bkk in that time...thats how long i spent the first time i went there.i spent a lot of time in phuket...again...doing the tour of all the nearby islands, before finding a beach and a hotel i liked and spent my time relaxing there...same with samui and krabi...i spent a few days in maya bay, where after the tourists had left from their day trips, was absolutely heaven..only one thing i wud say about thailand...dont try any "stuff" there...my previous housemate bought some weed off this guy in phuket, within minutes the cops were there frisking him as the seller and the cops were in cahoots!!
i dont think i have felt as relaxed anywhere like i did in thailand...bali is a close second!
from various accounts, vietnam/cambodia/laos are wonderful as well...

I get the impression that Bangkok is a bustling, busy city... however this will remain an impression for now. When i arrive i will get a feel for the place and decide then how much of my time i will spend there Travelling the islands would be nice, do you have much information on buying tickets to travel to and from each island? Is there one whole ticket that i could buy that would cover a few hop's?! If so,are they expensive? Thanks for the advice!..will stay clear!

well, i found that buying tickets beforehand dint suit me...cause if i was tired or dint feel like doing something the tkts would go to waste...for a lot of the trip, daytrips you can buy tickets there and then...however you are going in peak season, so it might be better to buy tkts overnight..
from bkk i flew to phuket and from phuket to samui...phuket to phi phi islands was like 32 usd for the boat trip and a bit extra for food etc for the day trip..you can even travel by overnight train from bkk to phuket/samui by overnight train...i think for samui i took a bus from surat thani...its cheap there...like decent food wont cost you more than 10 dollars a day..
