I'm flying into Bangkok on 7th November, and don't really have any plans as to where to go and how long for in each place. I have around 10-12 weeks. I want to do Cambodia, loas and vietnam first and work my way to Thailand around 9th Dec. Need to be on koh pangyan by New year as already got accomadation booked from Dec 29th.
So here's my questions to u guys who have travelled Asia already.....
You might want to do Vietnam first - the reason for this suggestion is that #1 - it's the most difficult country to travel in and #2 because it can get fairly chilly up in the north in winter (from mid-Dec), and #3 - you want to stay far away from Tet because of high costs. You can fly fairly cheaply on Air Asia from BKK to Hanoi. You can arrange an online very easily provided you arrive by air. Visas for the other countries are much easier - just buy them at the border or airport.
From N. Vietnam (be sure to go to Sapa, and spend several days in Hanoi) you can travel down the coast (or inland via the Central Highlands) ending up in Saigon or the Mekong Delta, and then on to Cambodia, and later to Laos. Cambodia and Laos should be a breeze after Vietnam. Be careful of the awful drivers in Vietnam - I really hate any surface travel there (I use the domestic airlines). I've never heard of it getting cold in Cambodia or Laos, ever.
I'm not taking my own advice (been there several times before, and I don't mind the cold). I'm starting off in Bangkok on Nov 16, then on to Laos, and finally to Hanoi.

Hi,
If you do Vietnam last you can get your visa in one of the neighboring countries. More convenient than getting it in UK. If you fly into VN you have no choice but to get it in advance.
Thanks,
Hi. i'm from VietNam.
I think Xmas here is not bad, especially in Sapa, very interesting...
I just know little English otherwise i can help you very much!
I hope you have the trip very fun...
Hi rach87,
not sure whether you get this message. But if yes, I will be in Ha Noi around 12th Nov and would like to travel to Sapa, Da Nang and Da Lat. If we could group up and plan an itinerary together it would be great.
Wish you a fantastic trip.
Leon
