Banking in Australia

hey tina
am in oz and currently banking with ANZ.it not like england where you can withdraw money in any atm.for instance if you have an anz card, you wont get charged transaction fees only if you withdraw from anz.ie-only anz to anz!! costs 2 dollars per transaction and sometimes 2.50!! otherwise
anz/commoonwealth bank atms are most frequently encountered.
hsbc you can withdraw without charge from most atm's, but hsbc branches are hard to come by, not like in the uk!

Also if you don't get an Australian bank account they will charge a foreign exchange fee every time to you use your international account.
You just need to be aware which banks use familiar banks.
Westpac also you can use St George and so on.
They are all much of a much so just be aware of the fees.

Thank you so much for your advice. I am now in touch with Commonwealth bank and they seem to be being helpful and I have a close friend who's parent's will let me use their home address if i require one. Should be able to set up an account to transfer some funds to and activate on arrival.

Trying to get a card from the uk that won't charge me meant me getting a credit card and there was still lots of hidden charges. Advice to all is thoroughly research and make sure you get the right plastic that suits your needs.
