Hi there
Try:

.
It might be a good option to organise a full or half day tour of the city which should enable you to cover quite a bit.
There's lots to see in Singapore but with only a day I would recommend Little India and Arab Street as they're interesting areas to wonder around. The Raffles hotel is a beautiful colonial building definitely worth a look and you could also have a walk around the river area - Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, if you have time.
As Cyberia mentioned, there is also a free tour available from the airport for people who have several hours in transit.
How about plan an itinerary for yourself if you're flying alone. Its good to set a lists of places to visit before going back to Sydney. Or before booking the flight, scan in to any booking flights agencies you can find online. That way you can search for a full flights and accommodation. For me, I have been using iFly.
There promos and events are cool plus they have amazing staffs that offers great services. Check it and see for yourself. Visit them here, http://ifly.net.au/
Many thanks for all your help
Jackie
