Cornwall & Devon - this summer

Hi

Hello!

Cornwall:

The area around Fowey (pronounced "Foy") is really pretty. Fowey is a lovely town on an estuary (you have to cross by ferry) with some excellent fish and chips to be had. If you're camping, there's a lovely little campsite across the estuary in Polruan. The country lanes around Polruan, Bodinnick and Lanteglos are heaven on a sunny summer's day, and there's a great circular walk you can do round there, taking both ferries. I'm sure it's easy to research on the web. For a gorgeous bay, look for Lantic Bay, easily walkable from Polruan. The Eden Project is 20 minutes drive from Fowey via Par.

It'll all be very busy in summer!!! Cornwall is one of those places where most the "gems" have been well and truly discovered and are heaving from July to August.

Devon:

I lived there for a year between Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton. I think Exmouth is a bit of a dive to be honest, although Budleigh is quite cute. If you're passing through the area there's a nice pebble beach and some good walks along the Jurassic Coast. Otterton Mill is very cute and worth a look to buy some nice local foods and amazing bread. No visit to Devon would be complete without a trip to Dartmoor, which is so huge it never feels crowded. On a clear day it's magical. Widecombe-in-the-Moor is a lovely village with a beautiful church, and the walking on Dartmoor is fabulous. Wistman's Wood is one of the oldest forests in the UK, near Two Bridges.

I love Exmoor even more, although most of that is in Somerset not Devon or Cornwall. Some particularly heavenly places to camp there, if you're going avec a tent!

Enjoy the planning!

Take a look at the Minnack Theatre and Polperro.

You might consider joining the National Trust. They have many interesting sights in Devon and Cornwall, check out their website for a map and description. If you join, entry to all these sites are free, a real travel bargain. We've been to nearly all of them and they are wonderful, very interesting and informative. One of the very best things we've ever done in YEARS of traveling Europe.

Not sure on your likes etc but we often go to Cornwall and sections of the peninsular path are spectacular.
We stay at Marizion and walk to Prussia Cove for brilliant swimming and snorkelling.
Logan's Rock is worth the scramble.
Cadgwith is a cracker.
Just a few but we are going back in April and never tire of the area, hope this helps

I am planning on doing a road trip from London to Cornwall and Devon this summer.

I really have no clue about the area at all... I plan to try and do one or two surf lessons and go to the eden project.

Was wondering what people thought were the key places people that I should go to? Or if there are any hidden gems that I might not read about in the usual guide books that I should see. Just looking for some nice beaches, places to cycle and some nice towns for dinners and drinks!

Thanks
