My main question is..
If you are planning vacation in the vicinity of Dubrovnik, and you want to get away from large crowds, the town of Cavtat is the right place for you.
Slano small picturesque town on the Dubrovnik Riviera, situated 40 km northwest of Dubrovnik
Lopud island is 50-minute boat ride from Dubrovnik city. Island Lopud is one of the Elaphite Islands. Lopud is traffic-free island, the bike and electric cars are the main vehicles. So you have the opportunity to enjoy the forgotten scent of unspoilt nature, and being away from everyday life.
I think September is a better time to visit Greek Islands than August, as far as you plan to be on the larger/southern/more popular islands towards the end of the month. On August even the tiniest islands are packed with crowds of tourists and heat waves are not unhead of... You may want to allow some time for Greek mainland too.
Anyway, I guess Turkey may be an option after Greece, then fly to France or Germany or why not going to Italy then train it north? There are ferries from particular Greek islands to Turkish coast http://www.turkeytravelplanner.com/trans/Ship/GreekIslandFerries.html and there are ferries from Corfu, Patra, Igoumenitsa Greece to Brindisi and Barri in Italy.
All of the countries in the Balkans can be really cheap. It sounds like you're looking to party, and Belgrade would be a good place for that where there are clubs on barges floating in the Danube.
If you're looking to see some natural beauty and a truly unique city, stay in Sarajevo for a few days.

Cheers for all the ideas.
My plans totally changed (pretty much everything)!
Funny how that happens when your planning a trip to Europe, just way to much to see and do.
I hadn't considered going to Bosnia/Serbia. I am definitely going to spend some time in Montenegro, the beaches, mountainside, everything looks amazing and relatively off the rader from the hordes of backpackers so far.
montenegro is packed with tourists (russians, italians...)! especially during summer and on seaside.
Maybe I would consider albanian coasts.
Belgrade shouldnt be missed (as well as Novi Sad in serbia).
South italy, apulia region, Sicily and Napoli have to be seen if you stay so long in Eu.
Any further info feel free to contact me
