Hi where I should stay for job opportunities and living

peachjourney has indicated that this thread is about Melbourne

Either would be fine, though I believe general living costs in Sydney are a little higher.

Good luck with your research!

Thanks.

I came from telectronic engineering background in business area with global top 3 companies, how about the job opportunities between these 2 cities? I was a little big concerns to find a job as I am new to the land, any further advise. I normally get job through head hunters here, what about in Australia?

Perhaps you could give some more details, like what kind of work you are looking for, how long you would stay, etc. ?

Are you mainly looking to work while here, or mainly planning on sight seeing?

Hi peter,

I am also living there.

I am experienced sales&marketing person with international traveling / working experience. In electronic industry, also latest 4 years in australia wines. thanks.

Yes, I will spend relevant time for sightseeing within australia as well.

The job market can be competitive in either place. As Kellie said, cost of living is a little higher in Sydney. But then, salaries are often also a little higher as a result.

If you are here on a working holiday visa or something of that kind, then job opportunities are more limited, because you will need to move on after a certain time. And companies are less likely to invest in key staff members if they are going to leave. If you have a permanent work visa, then things are easier.

I'd suggest the best is to have a look at job websites like Seek.com.au for an idea of what's available in your specific field of expertise maybe. And if you don't really care which city you end up in, then you can apply for jobs in both cities and move to whichever one works out for you.
