Morocco desert tour. pre book for book on arrival?

You should do some research and book in advance. The people who are good at doing the tours are busy and, yes, more expensive.

You'll find plenty of pretend nomads wearing blue robes in Marrakech offering you a bargain priced tour, and you may be lucky - or it might be a disaster.

Two points to bear in mind:

1. Although Morocco is fashionable, it is still Africa and Saharan accommodation isn't five star. Dubai we are not.

2. Distance. Erg Chebbi (better known as Merzouga) is 500km (300 miles) from Marrakech and getting there includes winding over the High Atlas on a mountain pass. The journey can take nine hours, so; break the journey half way. Don't take a bargain bus tour. Google 'bus crash morocco' to find out why.

Conversely, the roads are getting better and better, maps are rather less fantastical than they used to be, and you can even buy or rent GPS navigation, so self drive is now a real option. Steer away from the tiniest rental cars and enjoy cheap fuel and empty roads... and remember that it's quicker to reach Erg Chebbi from Fes than from Marrakech.
