Round World Trip

Hey all, I'm within a month or two of packing in my fishmongers job in the south of Ireland, to set of on a round the world trip, I'm leaving Ireland on the cheapest flight and after that , who knows ?

Not a lot of work about these days, and what there is is poorly paid.

Travel is expensive these days and a problem will be that Asia and South America are on opposite sides of the world and you will spend a good part of your budget on flights.

What I would do in your place is mid to late November when it's cold back home, fly out to Thailand. You'll get 30 days visa free on arrival.

Then fly somewhere like Vietnam and Cambodia and spend some time travelling around there, then back to Thailand for another 30 days.

Then fly somewhere else and back to Thailand for your last 30 days (90 days visa exemption out of 180).

Go back home sometime in April when it is warming up again. Maybe an open return date, allowing for the fact that you often cannot just walk into an airline office and say I want to fly tomorrow, so as much notice as you can.

You can do beaches, bars, tourist sites, accommodation and food and such for not too much money.

Vietnam you'll need a visa. Cambodia you can get it on arrival. US$20.

Hi

I'm thinking your 4-5000 eur will get you some fun times but not round the world in a leisurely unplanned manner like you're describing.

In Asia and South America, I think you can pretty much forget working. Locals are going to be cheaper than you, they don't come with extra baggage for employers like you do (ie no work permit), and there will be a tendency to keep the money with the locals. Even a bit of hostel reception work, you've got the appeal of a native English speaker going for you but that's it. If you were saying Australia on a Working Holiday Visa, yep that would extend your funds a lot, but not what you've described so far. (Would value other people's experiences on this? Maybe I'm out of touch.)

You may also run into some hassles over immigration officers wanting to see an onward ticket and proof of funds to support yourself during your stay. Do you have a planned route from Europe to Asia? Is there a schedule or are you doing it ad hoc? Some countries along your route may be slow issuing visas meaning you may have a lot of hanging around border towns, or may make it easier applying from your home country, or may have rules about entering on the right day that your visa starts.

My pal was just quoted £2000 for a RTW ticket; if you're doing plenty of overland you should shave a bit off that, but then South America flight prices are high, so flights are a big chunk of your budget. If you're going S E Asia direct to South America, finding cheap flights across the Pacific is challenging. (Best I can find is eg SIN-SCL booked 6 months ahead for £880.) That's going to work a lot better booked long in advance.

So if you take £2000 off to cover flights, visas, jabs, travel gear, insurance, and you enjoy a regular night on the lash as it sounds like you do, I think your remaining two or three thousand is going to be spread a bit thin. If you spend $60 a day, which isn't a partying budget most places, your money's going to last a couple of months.

Earn more money in your high-paid home country and save up for longer, or else trim your trip down and forget RTW and South America - make your way across Europe and Asia and come back the same way.

yeah most of it will be land travelling, no i have a brother in new zealand so plan would be not to spend too much time in europe, get to moscow, train to beijing for 340bucks, get down through asia till the money runs out, get a working visa for newzealand maybe, get the funds up to get to chile or argintina, make me way up to the states and home.

No i wouldn't be planning on going on the lash the whole time, obviously when in Rome like :-D
but ehh. . .

i would be paying for everything like flights train insurance an kit even leave some accomidation money at home, and litereally the cash that i could get at when im gone would be for local buses, trains, eating or if a museum cost a lil few buck , yano the usual.

sound for the feedback though, didnt know that about the Thai visas

That's sounding more of a plan now you've put some more detail on it.

Moscow's expensive but you can see the sights in as little as a day. Browse the web and learn the Cyrillic alphabet a bit beforehand and it makes life there much easier. Trans Sib is a great cheap way to get to Asia, and getting to Thailand etc quickly you can then live on practically nothing if you want.

Beware burning through all the money before NZ - think I've read they like to see NZ $4000 funds as well as your onward ticket for a WHV, maybe someone will tell me if that's up to date?

USA at the end is a budget killer, do most of your partying somewhere cheaper! :-)

Wow that sounds like an interesting plan you've got there. I think everyone deserves an adventure every now and then. I would really like to take this kind of adventure some time so please don't forget to document every bit of it.... photo, videos, collectibles, ...

I hope you have a plan of things you would like to keep from place to place. You might either collect to much or regret not keeping certain things....

I guess the one of the most outstanding problems will be funding; accommodation, site seeing, and transport... well I would like to recommend a service that gives you discount on hotels, transport( both flight and rentals ) and shops around the world and you get to try some tourist activities for free....
You could message me for more info about this service...

I guess it can at least cut some cost for you...all the same don't forget to have fun..

ah no in the true irish way i have phone numbers all over the world ha ha , should make it easier. should make europe cheaper anyway. but yeah good point on the foreign alphabets ;-) nice one!

Yeah the more jumps is thrown at me the better, an i'll have it well documented need not worry

I think you flight to Thailand and seeking for language learning school to be an english teacher. I have no idea how much salary you can generate but it will be survived you when time spending in Thailand and to be budget you go ahead.

in Laos, cambodia, vietnam you can do it same as well.
