I would not give up on your plans. Avoid the areas in BKK that are having protest marches and head for: Samui, Phuket, Krabi, Lanta, Phi Phi or wherever you choose to relax. The islands are not having any problems, go and enjoy yourself.
Hi, I'm heading to SEA in 2 weeks time. I was planning on spending 2 - 3 weeks in July relaxing in the islands in Thailand, at the end of travelling around Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. But at the moment, with the warning about thailand i'm trying to find somewhere else to chill out for a couple of weeks. Has anyone got any ideas about where i could go instead ??

Thousands of tourists are still flocking to Thailand every day, numbers are down because of the protests and the way Western news media make it look like the whole city is in turmoil. The Redshirts do have a good chunk of the city but the majority of Bangkok is still protest free. Even right now at least 20,000 visitors a day land at Suvarnabhumi Airport. Some of these tourists stay in Bangkok and some just head out to other cities like Chiang Mai, Phuket or a cheap relaxing holiday at Pattaya.
I was in Bangkok just 5 days ago and where I was on Sukhumvit Road everything was pretty normal. Restaurants were open, nightlife in full swing, malls open, street vendors and small shops open as usual. The Skytrain was running in this area and the normal amount of meter taxis cruising around like normal.
You can still have a good time in Thailand. Hotel prices are reasonable, lots of nice beaches, good food, a nice place to visit even if the protests are still going on.

thanks for the advice guys. I initially was planning on going to thailand anyway but because of the warning my travel insurance doesnt cover me to travel anywhere in thailand. Is there anywhere else nearby would recommend as an alternative??
You could try Malaysia. The are gorgeous. Or . flies: SGN-KUL or PNH-KUL.
A friend of mine just arrived from a trip in Japan. She show me a pictures, it is a very wonderful country , if I had time and enough money I I would go there.

Japan as suggested is really expensive and nothing like Thailand. I would go to Malaysia as some of the beaches there are just as good if not better than Thailand and the food is amazing. Its a really nice country and you are bound to love it!
