The Sunshine Coast starts about 80 kms norht of Brissie and goes for around 100 kms.
Yes there are lots of easy ways to access Bris, Syd and Melb, either by plane, bus, train or car (depending on time you have and budget).
From Brisbane, you can use either mode of transport to get to sunshine coast (train to Nambour, or flight to Sunshine coast, but usually from other capital cities like Syd or Melb), but most people will drive, so car rental might be a good option for you.
What actually happening on sunshine coast? Well there are beaches, hinterland (ie Glasshouse mountains including Maleny, Montville,), Australia zoo etc.
